Supporting Troop Aid – Buddies Night Fundraiser

“The chance to clean their teeth, wash their hair or put on a clean pair of socks when putting up with an unplanned diversion or overnight stop is a simple thing that helps them carry on and feel loved”

I sometimes think that as Lions we spend too much time saying what we do and not enough time talking about the difference we have made. I wonder whether we need to think more about how we can tell  our  stories to instill emotion and create images in the minds of others so that they remember and act on what they’ve heard.

My club’s next fundraiser, a Buddy Holly Tribute Night, is being held on March 10th in support of Troop Aid and other Lions Charities. Troop Aid is a charity which we have supported for a few years by supplying packs of basic clothing for injured soldiers.

In 2009 we provided our first packs of basic clothing and toiletries for injured soldiers both in Afghanistan and at Selly Oak hospital. In the September we received a personal letter from Wing Commander Green, a Medical Officer with the Ministry of Defence, who had recently been involved in the repatriation of British casualties from the hospital at Camp Bastion, to the UK.

During the evacuation, the medical team and patients had an enforced overnight stop at Kandahar Airfield without personal kit. They were issued packs prepared and donated by Castle Bromwich Lions Club and Wing Commander Green wrote to thank us and let us know what a difference such gestures make and what a profound impact it has on those on the receiving end to know that people at home are thinking about them. “The chance to clean their teeth, wash their hair or put on a clean pair of socks when putting up with an unplanned diversion or overnight stop is a simple thing that helps them carry on and feel loved”

If like us, you would like to make a simple gesture which has a profoundly positive impact on the life of somebody badly injured and far from home, why not phone Mick on 0121 748 6251 and book your ticket for our Buddies Night Fundraiser in support of Troop Aid and other Lions Charities?
